EQUINE RESCUE
& SANCTUARY

Bright Futures Farm is a trusted, well-respected 501(c)(3) equine rescue

and sanctuary located in Cochranton, Pennsylvania.

Since 2000, our mission has been to save horses from abuse, abandonment, neglect and slaughter.

We provide placement assistance for horses in need and provide permanent sanctuary for elderly and disabled

horses that have been callously discarded because they are “too old, ”too sick,” or unwanted. In 2002, we established

an on-site sanctuary for stray and feral cats. We also provide educational services to the community.

TRUSTWORTHY AND PROVEN

Bright Futures Farm has been a trusted 501(c)(3) charity since 2000. We are accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA) and have been since 2014. Being accredited by TAA means that we have proven, through independent documentation, that we are a transparent organization, use our funds wisely and provide excellent care to the horses at our facility. The TAA inspects our books and our facility several times a year.

We receive no funding from state or federal agencies. We rely solely on YOUR donations for support. Your financial support provides the food, medications and care each horse here needs to stay healthy in their golden years, and most of our seniors live well into their thirties because of the care that you help provide.

HELP US DO WHAT WE DO BEST

Making a donation will help us continue to do what we do best – provide a safe, dignified retirement for senior horses and senior cats.  Bright Futures Farm is known for providing an excellent quality of life for very elder seniors. As of 2023, our youngest horse is 23, and our oldest, is 34; our youngest cat is 13 and our eldest is 20. Each horse and cat are treated as an individual with regard to its medical and nutritional needs.

Your donation helps us provide medications, supplements, and treatments (chiropractic and PEMF) to help keep our seniors comfortable and healthy in their golden years.

You can make a one-time donation of any amount, or you can become a monthly sponsor of one of our horses for any amount. By making a donation YOU are providing a wonderful quality of life for one of these deserving seniors. Please click the link below to make a one-time donation or become a monthly sponsor.

WHAT WE DO: OUR 2019 OPEN HOUSE

Due to the restrictions all businesses and nonprofits faced in 2020 because of Covid, we had
no “in person” fundraisers in 2020. We’d like to share the photos of our 2019 Open House
to give you a look at our farm and what we do.

BRIGHT FUTURES FARM'S
2019 ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE

Our 2019 Open House was another huge success here at Bright Futures Farm. On a beautiful late summer day, we had visitors come from not only our local area, but Eastern PA, NY, OH, MI, WV, VA, IN, NC and GA! We had the good fortune to meet many friends we had only known through Facebook – in person!

Trusted Company, daughter of Secretariat, who is normally not a social butterfly, did not disappoint her visitors and was patient and kind while posing for photos. Our gift basket and 50-50 raffles were a great success and there were many smiling faces when the winners names were drawn!

We want to thank all of the individuals and businesses who donated merchandise for our baskets or created baskets for us as well as our volunteers and guests who helped make this day a great success!

2022-2023 GRANTS

THANK YOU, BRENNAN EQUINE WELFARE FUND

Catch This T (T) is a permanently disabled Thoroughbred gelding that was involved in a vehicle accident in 1999. The accident left him with little cartilage in one stifle and moderate neuropathy. In order to maintain pasture soundness, he is on a supplement, and receives regular massage, chiropractic care, and acupuncture. Over the years, his symptoms have varied from moderate to significant. Thankfully, we are always able to manage his condition with regular treatments which are funded, in part, by a grant from Brennan Equine Welfare Fund of The Greater Cincinnati Foundation. We are honored and grateful to BEWF for providing funding to help with T’s ongoing treatment. This level of care would not be possible without the support of Brennan Equine Welfare Fund and individual sponsors. (Press Release)

THANK YOU, THOROUGHBRED CHARITIES OF AMERICA

Bright Futures Farm (BFF) has been rescuing, rehabbing, retraining and finding homes for horses at risk and in need for over 21 years. TCA has provided financial support to Bright Futures Farm for just as long, helping us fund much needed care for those horses in transition and the permanent residents who call BFF home forever. Thank you to TCA for supporting our mission and helping our horses be as healthy as they can be. We appreciate your support.

 THANK YOU, THOROUGHBRED AFTERCARE ALLIANCE

How many people can say they look forward to an inspection? We can! For years, Bev Dee, our founder, has talked about the lack of transparency in other animal “welfare" non profits – organizations whose focus wasn’t necessarily 100% on the animals it vowed to care for. Bright Futures Farm always has been just that. And, Bright Futures Farm is proud to say they have been accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA) since 2014. To become accredited is a long and meticulous process – and it is a process that involves not just one inspection – but at least two every years.

TAA accredits, inspects, and awards grants to approved aftercare organizations to retrain, retire, and re-home Thoroughbreds using industry-wide funding.

  THANK YOU, CHURCHILL DOWNS FOUNDATION

  R.E.I.N. FUND

Relief for Equine Industry Needs (R.E.I.N.) was established by the Churchill Downs

Foundation in response to the growing needs in the racing industry as a result of the

COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent interruption of customary racing operations.

Among many other worthy causes, this emergency relief fund assists Thoroughbred

aftercare organizations, including Bright Futures Farm. Thank you, Churchill Downs

Foundation for your support.

  THANK YOU, SPECIAL HORSES

They provide fundraising opportunities, marketing assistance, educational opportunities, and community outreach for registered 501(c)(3) organizations involved with equine rescue, rehabilitation, and retirement. We are grateful for their assistance and proud to be associated with such a caring, selfless organization.
