Diplomatic Bid “Dippy”

(Diplomat Way – Honest Bid)  1980 dark brown Thoroughbred gelding.  16 hands.    Raced several years, then went on to career as English pleasure horse, and working hunter.

Dippy passed away.  We don't know when or how, and the family, Tom & Marci King,  will not reveal details.  Marci simply said "He died. I don't know when."  When she couldn't give me an answer, I asked if I could talk with Caroline, their daughter, as she would most  likely remember when.  I was told not to "bother" Caroline.  I reminded Marci that Dippy had a donor that would like to know what happened, and that we are obligated by contract to tell her.  I then reminded her that she is also required by contract to inform us of an adopted horses' passing.  It was then that they got nasty.  I feel for their daughter.  Dippy was her horse, and obviously, mom and dad were too busy to even remember "when" their daughter's horse died.

Iriquois Hills. "Beau"

(Tentiltwo - Going for Baroque)  1997 brown Thoroughbred gelding.  Beau was rescued by Equine Advocates of New York in April.   He had been sent to an auction in Sugarcreek, Ohio, well known for selling horses for slaughter, and was rescued as part of an undercover investigation of the slaughter industry by WTAE-TV and Paul VanOsdol in Pittsburgh.  After a thorough research of his racing history, it is believed that he was just not fast enough at the track, as he is perfectly sound.  The brief time he and Lily (see below, and also rescued from the same auction) spent in the holding pens, and the auction ring, was unpleasant to say the least, and left emotional scars that needed to begin healing before they would trust people again.  Beau and Lily were adopted and are enjoying their lives as family members of Idle Hour Farm.  Beau began schooling as a jumper on August 4, 2001.  He is now competing at the Grand Prix level. Quite an accomplishment.

Beau placed in the National Horse Show the weekend after Thanksgiving 2003 in Wellington, Florida What an accomplishment!

Beau placed in the 2004 National Horse Show in Wellington, after Thanksgiving.

Beau continues his career in 2005 and is jumping big over 4'6".

Beau was one of three horses featured in a great feature story in "Florida Horizons" magazine in 2004 published by LGD Enterprises.  The focus was on  the abilities and potential for a second career for ex racehorses.

Thanks, Len and Allene for a great story!

Beau has been placed with A. Simmons of New York

Sadly, we lost Beau to a heart attack in early December, 2009 after a trail ride

Oz.

2000 Draft cross gelding.  15 hands.  Bay. Star. White feet, feathers. Oz is a Standardbred/Draft cross.  Oz is a sound boy with a great personality and willingness to learn.  He's very special to us because he is the first horse that our friends Rick and Mindy purchased at the slaughter auction in Sugarcreek, OH, so Oz is one of our few true rescues.  Difficult to approach at first, Oz has become a very loving horse with the potential to excel at anything he likes.  He's being schooled in the English discipline and had his first show/dressage test in July, 2006.

Oz has been placed with P. Allen of New York and is now a therapeutic riding horse

Oz had his second show on 8-20-06 and placed 3rd in A Test and 5th in B Test in Dressage.  Congratulations!

(Distinctive Pro - Personal Nurse)  1999 bay Thoroughbred gelding.  Practice was rescued literally off the slaughter truck.  Scared, traumatized, wounded and missing a front tooth he was very wary of people after that ordeal.  He even charged me when I'd enter his paddock the first few days he was here.  He's slowly gaining the trust of people again, but is extremely head shy and wary.  Thanks to Tactical Side, his buddy from day one, Practice has seen that he can trust people again.  He and Tac have been inseparable here, and Tami saw the importance of keeping these two guys together, so she adopted both of them!  I can't thank her enough.  Tac is Practice's support system.

Shifter

Either born in 1970 or 1978 (tattoo is fading and we're guessing '78), Shifter is a  bay Thoroughbred gelding with good manners.    He has a striking profile - a classic Thoroughbred's head.  Shifter raced 7 years at Commodore Downs in Erie, PA, then was used as a trail horse. After that, he entered a program at Hermitage House Youth Services in Cambridge Springs, PA. Shifter is quite intelligent and has a mind of his own.  He was a bit too spirited for beginners, so he was placed with us. Shifter is a very special horse and has earned his retirement.

Note:   If you know of someone who worked at Commodore Downs in the mid to late 1970's, early 1980's, or you know of "Shifter" (his barn name at the track) personally, we need your help.  We cannot read his tattoo, and are anxious to find out "who" he really is - what his registered name is.  If you have information regarding this, please email or call us.  He may have been owned by "Swing Shift Stables".  We are relatively certain he was born in 1978.

________________

Our boys are pretty talented - and they love showing off!

Ziezo & Zorro are our only on site adoptions.  One of our friends fell in love with them and since  Ziezo and Zorro are truly inseparable, she asked if she could adopt them and keep them here as boarders.  We'd never thought of an on site adoption before, but it's a great idea because she and her family are close enough to visit them regularly, and  they'll get even more attention - something they both love.  Thank you Stacey for coming up with a wonderful idea and thank you for adopting Ziezo & Zorro.

Zorro Zorro is a 1982 light bay Gelderlander gelding.  16.3 hands.  Good manners/disposition.  Smart.  No vices.  Easy to handle on the ground and under saddle.
Ziezo:   1980 light bay Gelderlander gelding.  16.2 hands.  Good manners/disposition.  No vices.  Smart.  Easy to handle on the ground and under saddle.

Walter:   1981 bay Gelderlander gelding.  16 hands.  Good manners/disposition.  A bit lazy under harness, but Victor keeps him in tow!  Easy to handle under saddle and on ground.

Victor: 1980 bay Gelderlander gelding.   16 hands.   A bit of arthritis in hock, but still likes to work.  Most honest of the four about his job.  Good manners/disposition.  Good under saddle and on ground.

Zorro and Ziezo are brothers.  Along with Walter and Victor, they were driven extensively in Europe in endurance driving competitions, then exhibitions. They were also trained and shown in Dressage under Harness.  They were obtained by the Kluges family from Phillip Hofmann who had purchased them in Holland.  Mr. Hofmann was very well known for being a promoter of carriage driving and coaching competitions in the 1960's and 1970's.  He was Chairman and C.E.O. of Johnson and Johnson.  The Gelderlanders arrived in New Jersey in 1986.  They were taken to Windsor Horse Show in England.  They were also used for various coaching events.  Mr. Hofmann passed away in December of 1986 and the Kluges then purchased our boys in 1987.  There were paraded at Stratford Hall, and also taken to the Washington International Horse Show several times.  They were featured in an article about the Kluge's estate in Charlottesville in Town and Country  magazine.  Their most recent work was to draw the carriage that carried the judges for the Rolex International held each year at the Kentucky Horse Park.  A painting of them by Valerie Hinz, a well known Canadian artist hangs in a private gallery in Toronto.  When harnessed, Walter and Victor were the lead horses, Zorro and Ziezo were the wheelers.  The photo shown of the four horse hitch is Walter and Victor in the front, Zorro and Ziezo in the rear.  The Kentucky Horse Park has generously donated all four of them to Bright Futures Farm.
