Bright Futures Farm is an equine charity whose primary focus is re-homing off the track Thoroughbreds...horses that can no longer race due to disinterest or injury…horses unwanted by their owners and sent to auction where most are purchased for slaughter.  Our dedication has grown to include providing sanctuary for older horses that are unwanted after their "useful years" are over, including older stallions that cannot be gelded due to the risk of complications.

We are always in need of foster homes.  When you foster a horse you help us save one more from harm.  Fostering expenses are tax-deductible.  If you have room, please ask us about our foster program.

Gatsby (Pistol)

14 hands Born  6/24/08 9:30 am

Gatsby is an American Warmblood.  He has wonderful balance, collection and agility.  He has jumped already on his own and can turn on a dime.  This little guy has so much potential.  He has a very high step and we can see him excelling at Dressage.  He's very well built and has a wonderful disposition and is quite intelligent.  Gatsby is very "in your pocket".  He is brave and curious.  He is the only horse we have who has no "baggage".  He was born here, and has never known a harsh hand.

Gatsby is currently being schooled by Cynthia Hopkins.

Cupid at Bright Futures

Cupid

2007  Sorrel Haflinger cross gelding.  14 hh. Star, socks.

With the help of the Fans of Barbaro we rescued Cupid from a Broker's lot in Pennsylvania in January 2009.   He also weekly transports horses to slaughter, and Cupid was due to be on the next truck.  Cupid arrived at Bright Futures earlier this spring. He is very sweet and very smart. He's got wonderful ground manners, stands, longes, comes when called, & has been desensitized to many sounds and objects. He can/will be started under saddle this spring.  He would make a wonderful children's pony hunter (has free jumped beautifully), or would be a great choice for Pony Club.  Cupid is athletic and floats across the ground.

Mamabernie (Bernie)

(Repent - Ray's Gift)

2006 black Thoroughbred stallion  16 hands.  blaze, three socks

We had less than two days to move Bernie off the track.  He didn't want to race and was at high risk for slaughter.  Bernie is very laid back, easy to handle and very sweet.  More information to come as he is evaluated by Kim and Scott.  Bernie was gelded on 9/14/09 and has come through the surgery like a trooper!

Thank you to our friends Mary H., Jeanne B., Judy S., Janet L., Karen M. & Front Range Equine Rescue for their help with the cost to geld Bernie.  Thanks also to Kim and Scott for picking him up at the track!
