Bright Futures Farm
is an equine charity whose primary focus is
re-homing off the track
Thoroughbreds...horses that can no longer race due to disinterest or
injury. Being situated in a rural farming community has made us very
aware of the lack of respect for companion animals, barn cats in
particular. The faces you see on this page are all the product of
the farmer's concept of natural selection and survival of the fittest.
Other than my two personal cats, Harry and Pumpkin, all of these cats
were feral migrants who chose to reside in our barn for shelter at one
time or another. Many are elders. Some were born here.
We are proud to say every single cat we have helped is spayed or
neutered and in the last three years, we have only seen three feral cats
wandering in the area. Unfortunately none stayed long enough for
us to help them.
If you are a
cat lover, as we are, please consider a donation to assist with the care
of these wonderful creatures who now make their home at Bright Futures
Farm. |

Harry is super!
As a kitten,
he wandered onto my front porch when I lived in Butler in 1994. He
and Pumpkin moved here with me when I established the rescue.
Harry loves boxes.
Pumpkin
is my other buddy. She
was originally named Valentine, but I changed her name because Harry's
first friend, Sneakers, passed on Valentine's day, 1998. Keeping
the name Valentine would have been too difficult. Pumpkin
was born in 1997.
Lightning came with Rigger in 1999 when one of my clients
from Mars moved his business and could not take his cats with him.
He was very upset, and asked me if I would give them a forever home on
the farm. Well, they became part of the house cat clan as they
were older when they arrived. Lightning was 8 when she came to us.
A lovely girl, she loved to talk and follow me everywhere. She
developed a tumor on her neck behind her ears, and we could not remove
nor control it. Sadly, she passed in 2006 at age 16.
Rigger Lightning's
buddy. Rigger is a real shadow. He's constantly under foot,
so you have to watch where you step or your next step could be on
Rigger! He loves attention and
having his neck rubbed. Rigger was 10 when he came to us. He
is now 19 and in good health, but showing signs of being older.
Sadly Missed,
and Always Remembered...
