Bright Futures Farm Brite Decision click any photo for his story |
|||||||||||||||
|
Bright Futures Farm is an equine charity whose primary focus is re-homing off the track Thoroughbreds...horses that can no longer race due to disinterest or injury…many of which are unwanted by their owners and sent to auction where most are purchased for slaughter. Our dedication has grown to include providing sanctuary for older horses that are unwanted after their "useful years" are over, including older stallions that cannot be gelded due to the risk of complications. We are always in need of foster homes. When you foster a horse you help us save one more from harm. Fostering expenses are tax-deductible. If you have room, please ask us about our foster program. |

Alina 1989 grey Arabian mare. 14.1 hh.
Alina is a beautiful girl. She is as personable as she is beautiful. Alina grew up knowing only her mother, Dana, for seventeen years. When Dana passed, at age 32, Alina was asked to be part of the herd at her new home. She did not know how to act with other horses and she dealt with her fear through aggression. Not toward any human, only toward other horses. She stayed at Bright Futures Farm for almost a year and lived in her own paddock beside two other mares. She would occasionally talk to one of the other mares, but did not want any geldings near her. We thought perhaps another mare...another Arabian mare...would be just the ticket for Alina. It has been almost a year that Alina has been with Hayley, and that has not worked out well either.
Alina LOVES PEOPLE. She will stand in the middle of her paddock with no halter or rope, still as a statue for young girls to brush her and rub on her and love her. She will allow a young person to lead her and as long as there are no other horses around, her ground manners are lovely. She knows the sound of my truck and will raise her head and call to me as soon as she hears me coming down the road.
She just cannot be with another horse.
Alina needs a home where she can have a paddock of her own to call 'home'...where she can have a human who has time to spend with her and love her. I am certain she can be ridden. She's sound and she's had some schooling.
Are you the one who can offer Alina a wonderful home where she can be a young girls best friend?
Placement fee is $-0- Donations are appreciated
Aly Bees Fuse (Aly)
2006 bay Thoroughbred mare. 15.3 hh.
Aly came off the track sound. She just didn't want to run. She is kind, quiet and loves attention. She's got wonderful ground manners, and has been ridden since racing. She could be schooled for any discipline. Intermediate rider for now. For more information, contact us.
Aly is being fostered by P. & M. Capparell of PA and is located in Summerville, PA
Awe (Proud And True – Awestamind) 2000 dark brown Thoroughbred gelding. 17 hh. Star, stripe, snip, RF pastern, LH coronet.
Awe has brains and talent. His gaits are long and balanced and he works easily in a simple snaffle. He’s a kind horse and enjoys having a job. He loves trail riding and is willing to go alone, or in a group. He will walk through creeks, up and down hills and over logs. He also works well in a ring. Awe is willing to do what is asked of him. He'd make a great Dressage or trail horses. He is capable of jumping, also, but just doesn't seem to be interested in it. However, he IS the kind of horse that you CAN ride occasionally. If you have a week or two between rides, it's not an issue. He just comes in when asked, and you tack him up and go! He's never had to be longed before a ride, and he's an "easy keeper". He is currently on pasture board with a run in and keeps his weight up fine. He does get one meal of grain in summer, and two in winter. He's very good in a stall...not a weaver or cribber. And, he gets along well with other horses...mares and geldings. Don't over look him just because he doesn't have any "chrome". this is ONE NICE HORSE.
Awe is being fostered by Brittney W. Placement fee is $600 REDUCED Video Link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLKyYS8D3nk
Belle bay Standardbred mare.
We rescued Belle from the Camelot Horse Auction in January 2010. As you can see she was in horrible shape (well, once we get the photo glitch fixed, you can see them). She has been in the care of friends Cory and Aaron Winkler in WI and Cory has done a tremendous job rehabbing her. Belle is going to be evaluated for riding in the next couple of weeks, and we will have more information about her personality and abilities then.
Belle is being fostered and rehabbed by C. and A. Winkler of WI Belle's placement fee is a donation
Butler (Stetson) Adopted! 2007 solid bay Appaloosa gelding. 14.3 hands.
Butler is smart and has a great work ethic. He's willing to do what is asked of him and picks things up quickly. He has wonderful conformation and cutting bloodlines (Doc Bar bred). He would make a great WP, roping, cutting horse. He loves "going places". Butler arrived at his new foster home with Cynthia Hopkins on May 29. Butler is quick, can stop or turn on a dime and is an awesome horse He trail rides, is traffic safe (see the picture I took while driving the truck - he was trotting beside me!), isn't spooky, can be ridden bareback with halter and lead, will go alone or with other horses and with dogs. He can be ridden by a confident amateur rider.
Butler has been places with Cynthia Hopkins Cynthia is a professional trainer in Northwestern PA. You can reach Cynthia at: email: adashofextraeasy@hotmail.com phone: 814-490-3258
Codi Adopted!
Codi placed in her 1st show! This gal is ready for a home!
2005 Sorrel Quarter Horse mare. 14.2 hh. Small star, dot above each eye.
Codi is a great girl. She's very smart. Show her something once or twice and she "gets it". Loves variety. Great on trails. She went to her first show, and did a halter class for practice, & she was great! She stood like a champ... squared and was very quiet. She went into an adult showmanship class next and placed fifth. She ties, bathes, good with vet/farrier, current coggins. She doesn't spook at anything. At the show, she was near a group of therapeutic riders and wheelchairs moving about. On trails, she's encountered wildlife. she's encountered ATV's, road traffic, ditches, culverts, etc..... She's been fine with everything that's been presented to her. She needs confident rider/handler who knows what they are doing (novice as long as they are educated and confident). Would be a great horse for a 4-H person. goes English. Could go Western also.
Codi was fostered and schooled by T. Ferrell in Collins, OH

Don Gregory (Greg) Adoption Pending! (Don Gregory - ) 1996 Chestnut Oldenburg gelding. 16.1 hh.
Greg's is very fancy and is a beautiful mover. He is very athletic & is used to being in a program...ridden about four times a week. He's a little lazy so he's been ridden with nubby spurs to give him a little tickle. He loves attention and has a super personality. Greg works best in a port and martingale. He is quite an easy ride for an amateur/novice. He would be a superb teacher on the flat, and could also excel at Dressage. No jumping. He had a soft tissue injury in his RF foot in 2008. He completely recovered and is completely sound, but we want to make sure that he has no chance of re-injury with the toll jumping can take on a horse over time. Greg is available to adopt. Contact us for more information.
Greg is being fostered by K Mason of MA

Good Boy George
2003 16.0 H grey TB gelding.
George is very brave to the jumps, enjoys his job. He's excellent at flat work, and very comfortable and smooth to ride. His jumping style more suited to jumpers, but could also do the equitation and lower lever hunters. George respects a rider who uses their legs and is light with their hands. If you have a good seat, are balanced, and confident, you should not have any trouble riding George. He has integrated well into our small "herd" of geldings here, and we have had no issues with him other than he is pushy on the ground. We are working daily on that issue and he is responding very well.
Sept. 1, 2010: Just rode George. What a gentleman! This was our first ride. He's been here a week.

Holme On Time (Homer) (Bolting Holme - Feather Bob) 1996 chestnut gelding. 16.1 hands. Few white hairs on forehead. Homer is a great horse to ride. Enjoys trails. Goes over and through water with no problem. If startled, he'll take a hop and stop, or simply freeze. Homer needs a confident and relaxed rider. Easy on the leg and not heavy handed. He has a soft mouth and responds well to cues. He has not been ridden in two years, and will need started back slowly. Homer works well in a simple snaffle. He has very high withers, so it is very important that you properly fit the saddle to him. If the saddle is pinching his withers - he will buck. If the saddle is properly fitted - he will not buck. It's really that simple. He's a kind horse, and smart. Homer would do well with a teenager who likes to trail ride or pleasure ride. He has an old slab fracture to RF knee, so no jumping. Homer needs a new home ASAP. Homer is being fostered by T. Jewel of PA Placement fee is a donation to our organization.
John 2002 dark brown mule gelding. 14.2 hands John appears to have had a tough past. He has a fear of humans. There is a white streak in his mane that could be from a harness rubbing him. He has made great progress during the last month when he was in quarantine (month of June 2010). Once he learns to trust and relax, he should be just as sweet as Lily. He is a dark bay, like Lily and has a very handsome face, John must be adopted with his bonded friend, Lily (see above) . They would be a beautiful team to drive, or school for trail riding. People must earn a mule's trust, and we must gain their cooperation to accomplish a task rather than tell them to do something. John is being cared for by Rosemary Farm in NY Placement fee is a donation to Rosemary Farm. Contract is through Bright Futures Farm. Thank you, Dawn, for sending John and Lily to school with Dan :-)
Laugh A Little (Guff) Adoption Pending! (Deposit Ticket - Joy In The Morning) 2001 Chestnut Thoroughbred gelding. 16 hands. Star, stripe.
Guff is a well-schooled horse who enjoys working. He is very polite and curious. He likes being around people and loves to travel. No vices. He's an easy keeper. He was schooled to first level Dressage. He has a beautiful extended trot and wonderful transitions. He's also a great trail horse. He goes anywhere, and loves water. He would be a wonderful "teacher" for an amateur rider, can flatwork, show in equitation, lower level Dressage and trails. Guff needs to be pastured either with all geldings or all mares as he is very possessive of mares. He doesn't give his handlers any trouble, but he will be aggressive toward another gelding if a mare is in the same pasture. Guffs placement fee is $500
Lillian 2007 brown mule Jenny, approx 14.2 hands Lily, is gregarious and friendly. She has been taught to lead but appears to know nothing else at this point. She's a beautiful dark bay with red highlights in her mane and tail! She must be adopted with her bonded friend, John (see below) . They would be a beautifully matched team to drive, or school for trail riding. Lily is being cared for by Rosemary Farm in NY placement fee is a donation to Rosemary Farm. Contract is through Bright Futures Farm Thank you, Dawn, for sending John and Lily to school with Dan :-)
Mamabernie (Bernie) (Repent - Ray's Gift) 2006 black Thoroughbred gelding 16 hands. blaze, three socks Bernie is on our page, New Arrivals/Training/Rehab
Mamie 3 year old Seal brown Paso Fino mare. approximately 14 hands Mamie is very sweet and smart. She came to us thin, and has gained weight easily. She will need to be schooled both on the ground and under saddle. She's very kind and accepts any interaction/instruction from people very well. Once schooled, you will have a very nice riding horse! Mamie is being boarded at Serendipity Stables in PA (Thank you, Kim for everything!)
Mamie's placement fee is $350
Nileinsky (CAN) (Dug) (Upper Nile (by Nijinsky) - Blade's Mirado) 1983 chestnut gelding. 16 hands. A former lesson horse discarded when he no longer "fit" their program, Dug was rescued from the kill pen at the Camelot Auction in Cranbury, NJ on 9/3/09. A grandson of the great Nijinsky, and former race horse in Canada and the U.S., Nileinsky (Dug) moved into his foster home with Suzann T. in Ohio in October 2009. He moved to Bright Futures Farm in May of 2010 (Thank you Suzann for taking such great care of him!) He's has gained almost all of his weight back, and he is looking healthy and feeling fit. Dug would make a great trail horse and/or a wonderful teacher for an amateur rider who wants to refine their skills in an English discipline. Send Us Magic (Curly) Needs a home ASAP 1991 bay Thoroughbred mare. 16 hands. Curly has been ridden both western and English. She has not been ridden in the last four years due to disinterest on the part of her caregivers. She will need a refresher course by an intermediate or advanced rider/trainer, and then could be ridden by an early intermediate, and possibly amateur with the appropriate supervision. She could do anything, trails, jumping, flatwork... She is a very nice horse. We are looking for someone to offer their services to give Curly a refresher course under saddle. The fair market value of your contribution is tax-deductible. Curly needs a new home ASAP. Craig has been very generous with his space, but we need to find her a permanent home before fall 2010.
Curly is being fostered by Craig J. Placement fee is $-0-
Short Squeeze (Shorty) (Dynaformer - Blond Moment) 1999 Bay Thoroughbred gelding. 17.1 hands. Star, two hind socks.
Short Squeeze, aka Shorty, was pulled on
1/22/10 from the Sugar Creek OH feedlot. He was purchased by the
Fans of Barbaro. He's been living at the KY Horse Park in the hope
that he would work out for either their Parade of Breeds, or their
Mounted Patrol (he's 17.1 hh).
Shorty won $200,076 in his career.
He was ridden by Richard Miglori, Lonnie
Mesche, Edgar S. Prado and Chantal Sutherland.
Shorty has a magnetic personality and
everyone who meets him falls in love with him! He captured our hearts
:-)
Shorty was recently evaluated under saddle
by Maker's Mark Secretariat Center. Unfortunately, he cannot be
ridden. He was asked to walk and trot over a period of about ten
minutes. He was visibly lame under saddle. Upon his inability to
carry a rider (even though he IS pasture sound), Maker's Mark ordered
x-rays. The films show a condylar fracture that was surgically
repaired, his RF fetlock is fused and has floating chips, and his RF
knee also has floating chips. Carrying his own weight is not an
issue. Carrying a rider is.
Can one of you please open your heart and
your home to a lovely, kind soul who deserves a dignified
retirement? This boy is a dream to be around, and probably has quite
a few stories to tell too.
Shorty is being fostered by the KY Horse Park
Simmer 2000 dark brown Thoroughbred mare. star, stripe, snip, socks. She LOVES trail riding. She's gone alone, with dogs, in a group, alone. Goes through water. She's not spooky. She stands tied, stands quietly in the trailer. Stands to mount and dismount. Works best in a simple snaffle. She has done flatwork also. She is strong at the canter (she LOVES to "go"), but does listen if you do not want her to gallop. She is not "mare-ish" at all. She gets along with the boys and the girls, no mixed herd issues. Simmer's placement fee is $550
