Tessa June '09
Barefoot Osborne (Tessa)
(Barefoot Hanover -
Flying Speed)
1995 bay Standardbred mare. 15.3 hands. Star.
Tessa was rescued from off a kill buyer's trailer at New Holland just
ten days before she foaled a beautiful little colt named Pistol.
Rescued through the generous support of the FOB's, Tessa and Pistol both
can look forward to a good life in a loving home.
Tessa raced successfully and then at some point was sold to an Amish
family. She is "obedient" which is a term I hate to use, but I
think she has been abused at some point. She will do whatever is
asked of her as long as she knows what you want.
We
know she's been driven. I doubt she's been ridden yet. She
does have two old, healed bows and is pasture sound. She could
easily be schooled for pleasure/trail riding. She has a wonderful
personality, and is learning how to enjoy being doted on. She
stands to be groomed, will halter easily and although can be somewhat
pushy when being led, she will listen if asked.
Tessa has been
placed with C. Sambol of Ohio

Lady Topaz (Lady)
()
1995 Dark brown Standardbred mare. 15.2 hands.
Lady is BLIND. That said, she's a wonderful riding horse.
She is confident once she trusts her rider and she's very comfortable
with her "friends" at the farm she resides at. We have had Lady up
for adoption for some time, but her lack of sight has been a deterrent
for many people. Since she is so comfortable there and they love
her as well, they have asked if they could foster her permanently.
Lady is being permanently fostered by
C. & C. Minnick & family of PA

Gus @ Pam's 08/05/09
Shewfella (Gus)
( )
1993 Bay Standardbred gelding.
Gus was rescued Independence Day weekend (July 3, 2009) with fifteen
other horses we saved that weekend at the Sugarcreek, OH auction.
Another FOB, Amanda, and I were very concerned about four Thoroughbred
broodmares that were given to a known kill buyer from an Ohio farm. They
were pregnant, and their bloodlines were decent enough that we were
hoping he would attempt to sell them to private buyers. After
talking with other FOB friends, Kathy and Rachael, it was decided that
someone would be at the auction Friday to look for the mares.
Lori made the trip for us. Unfortunately the mares were not there.
But there were so many horses, many of them very nice, that we started
fundraising to save one or two, and through the course of two days,
raised enough money to save fifteen! Gus was the first horse Lori
chose. He was road sore, had old Amish shoes on very long toes and
high heels, had some sort of "skin disorder" around his withers, on his
neck, chest, and belly. And, he was thin. He was very kind
though. Gus started rehab at Drafty Acres then moved to Lori's
farm. Pam C, from Ohio was looking for another Standardbred to
adopt, and I told her about Gus. She was absolutely the right
person to adopt Gus. He is thriving in her care, and as you can
see from the photos, he's come a long way in a short period of time.
Thank you SO MUCH, Pam for giving Gus a wonderful home where he will
never again have to want for anything. And, thank you, Fans of
Barbaro for saving Gus and fourteen other deserving souls that day.
Gus has been placed with P. Chambers
of OH

Whiteland Becky (Becky)
()
1995 Chestnut Standardbred mare. 16 hands. .
Becky came to us through the dispersal of a breeding farm in NJ.
She is a good driving horse and companion to Max, who is now retired.
Becky is driven for pleasure.
Becky has been placed with V. Dodds &
family of GA
