Bright Futures Farm is a sanctuary for retired Thoroughbreds.  We find homes for many horses that have the potential for a new career as a trail horse or family pleasure mount.   Our focus is to save as many horses as we can before  they are faced with neglect or auction.

We are always in need of foster homes.  When you foster a horse you help us save one more from harm.  Fostering expenses are tax-deductible.  If you have room, please ask us about our foster program.

"Markie"

(Secretariat - Tina's Ten)

Markie has the distinction of being the last known son of the infamous Secretariat to race.  His final race drew the attention of the New York Post, and they featured him in a four page story shortly after his final start.

Markie's donor told us that the Kentucky Horse Park had expressed interest in Markie, but he chose Bright Futures Farm as Markie's retirement home, and we are thrilled and honored to have him as one of our permanent residents.

"The G's"

The G's have celebrity status in the world of Driving and Fine Harness...Endurance Driving Competitions, CDE, Coaching, Dressage in Harness - they've been there, done that.  They are a 4-in-hand team of Gelderlanders registered with the KHP, imported from Holland in 1989 by Phillip Hoffman, then CEO, of Johnson & Johnson brand products.

Our boys have logged more air miles than most business travelers!

Their last public performances were at the Kentucky Horse Park in the late 1990's.  They were the team chosen to pull the judges into the ring for opening ceremonies for the world renown Rolex Three Day Event.  We are honored to have these boys in our care.

Why we exist...

Many of the wonderful horses we re-home are Thoroughbreds  that can no longer race because of injury or inability to place consistently “in the money”.   For many of these horses,  the owner often sees no other useful purpose for the animal and sends it to an auction which most often results in a cruel demise at a slaughterhouse.  more...

March 9, 2008...Happy Birthday, John...

Gone of this earth, but alive in our memories and our hearts, thundering across the clouds with The Bart once again, and eating chocolate donuts.

Memorial Service Planned for the Great John Henry

"He was not the best race horse. He was not the fastest or the busiest. He wasn't the greatest weight carrier, and certainly not the handsomest or the most personable. But he was the most remarkable horse who ever raced -- anywhere. "

Joe Hirsch
Retired Daily Racing Form columnist

A public memorial service to remember and celebrate the remarkable life and legacy of John Henry will be held
October 19 at 2pm at the Kentucky Horse Park.

John's Memorial service will be televised at 2:00 PM EST by HRTV (Dish Network ch 404).  The only other Memorial Service I know of was Man O'War's in 1947.  His was broadcast on the radio.

John's service was a very touching tribute to a Great Champion as he was so often referred to - and with good reason.  John Nicholson, Executive Director of the Park, and all of the speakers gave such a deserved tribute to an individual who has touched so many lives for so many years.  And, as Mr. Nicholson said today,  John's legacy will live on in ways we can't even imagine.

Daphne died on 08-01-07 due to, in my opinion, the negligence of driver "Jim" and the owners of S & E Transport of Crossville, TN  ...Click Daphne's photo for more information.

Be VERY careful about who you hire to transport your horse.

Gunner was laid to rest beside Daphne at a friend's farm in Catlett, VA

Gunner died in a freak accident in VA on 1-95 on his way home to Florida.  The garage that put new tires on Allene's Land Rover put the WRONG SIZE TIRE on the back, and it just fell off! The result was a horrid accident in which Gunner lost his life and Beau and Lily survived with non-life threatening injuries.

Please check your vehicle over carefully whenever you have any work done.

Allene had used this garage for ten years and had no reason to think there would ever be a problem!  It cost Gunner his life, and it could have also taken the lives of Allene, Santos, Beau and Lily.

El Alegre

Thoroughbred Gelding

1996 - 11/03/07

Too many people are in a hurry.  Too many people are reckless in how they do things.  Debby K. OHearon of Clarksville, TN adopted Alegre.  I asked her who she was going to use to transport him as I had just lost Daphne due to negligence.  Debby quickly said..."I am.  I read about Daphne on your web site, and I would never do anything to harm him..."

Darlin' is missing....

HAVE YOU SEEN ME...?

DID YOU BUY ME...?

Darlin was last seen on August 21, 2004 at the Florida Classic Horse Sale in Ocala.  Cathy Wyckoff of Ocala traded her to Norm Franklin, a dealer from Ocala.  Norm was not willing to provide us with any information when we contacted him.  We know he sold her and believe she could still be in Florida or Georgia.
